This site is intended for anyone interested in astronomy, and particularly anyone who would like to be a member of the Bootham School Astronomy Society. This membership is available to all members of the Bootham community, and students from other York schools who have attended the ISSP course on astronomy at Bootham. If you choose to subscribe by email, you will receive an email of any new post within about twenty four hours. There will also be twitter updates before an observatory session, and you are recommended to follow me on twitter using the button on the right of this screen.

The Minster and the Moon
 
A respectable photo of the moon taken with the Nikon D700. It features an illuminated York Minster and the silhouette of a large tree with the moon taking presidence in the centre. The clouds had just moved away in time to take this photo! Exposure time 30 seconds, ISO 200, 24mm lens.

All set for tonight

The weather is not going to be terrific tonight, but it won't actually be raining apparently. I will therefore open up the observatory from 8pm - please park in the school grounds and come straight to the observatory. We'll be closing at about 9.15pm. If we can't see anything, I will I will give a short presentation on the night sky, just so you know what you are missing!
